Why your website isn't in Yandex's top results: 6 reasons besides domain age

The website is two years old, yet search finds it only by the company name — and not always. “Domain age is holding it back” is a convenient explanation, but more often the cause is something else. We go through the real reasons found in 9 out of 10 small business websites.

Reason 1. Page titles tell the search engine nothing

If a page title is just “Home” or the company name without the service and city, the search engine doesn't understand which query to show you for. “Party agency in Sochi — children's party planning” tells the search engine far more than just the brand name.

Reason 2. The website has no text answering real queries

Pretty pictures and three sentences of text are not enough for a search engine to understand what a page is about. People search for “how much”, “how it works”, “what's included” — if the page doesn't answer these questions in text, not just in a photo gallery, the search engine simply has no reason to show you for those queries.

Reason 3. The website loads slowly on phones

More than half of search traffic is mobile, and loading speed directly affects rankings. Heavy uncompressed photos, unnecessary scripts, a layout not designed for a small screen — all of this not only annoys visitors but directly pushes you down in the results.

Reason 4. No structure by specific services

A single “Services” page with a list of ten items works far worse than a separate page for each major service with detailed text. Search engines rank specific pages for specific queries — if you don't have a separate page about “VK community design”, you can't expect to reach the top for that query.

Reason 5. Nobody mentions you outside your website

A search engine considers not only the website itself but also what is said about you elsewhere: maps (Yandex Maps, 2GIS), review sites, industry directories, mentions in articles. If the only place on the internet where you exist is your own website, the search engine sees that as a signal of distrust.

Reason 6. Technical errors you don't know about

Broken links, duplicate pages, a missing sitemap (sitemap.xml), pages accidentally blocked from indexing — such things are invisible to the eye, but the search engine sees and counts them. Every few months it is worth checking the website with at least a basic SEO audit so these errors don't pile up for years.

SEO for a small business isn't a one-off setup but ongoing work on the texts, structure and reputation of the website in the eyes of the search engine. The good news: to outrank competitors in a local niche you don't need a national brand's budget — you need consistency in everything listed above.
